Ballet Inspired Bridal Shoot | Ana and Luca

Apr 5, 2017

I have been trying to push myself a bit this year. Shoot more of what I love and what inspires me. Let’s be honest, I’m not the first girl in the world to be in awe of ballerinas. The strength and grace and sheer presence of them is something to revel at. I’ve had the idea for this shoot for a long time and was SO excited when Ana and Luca were on board and that Hyde Park Bridal was willing to loan us these STUNNING Hayley Paige gowns to set off the vision.

Let’s take a moment to talk about how incredible Ana and Luca are. I don’t know why I’m always so surprised when people are willing to jump in front of my camera when I come up with a wild idea. They not only were willing, they were excited and inspiring. They were so up for anything and we seamlessly blended their knowledge and expertise with my vision. And also laughed and joked their way through all the hiccups.

Let’s talk a bit about the hiccups. With growth comes full disclosure. This shoot didn’t go quite as planned. I had set up and prepared an adorable dessert spread on a cart, complete with with florals that I had done. I got exactly 5 minutes to shoot said spread before mother nature rolled in with her big ole elbows and knocked everything to the ground. So we improvised and moved on. I had originally planned on sunshine and warm temps which had been in the forecast for weeks, mother nature once again gave me a big ole middle finger and rolled in with some rain and chilly temps. But you know what? I don’t hate the moody vibe that runs through the images and it made me push a bit more than I would normally when I have amazing light to lean on. Wouldn’t you know that right when we had finished the sun came out. So I frantically made them get back in their get up and we got some incredible stellar sun kissed images that made for a very very happy sun-chasing photographer. I hope this won’t be my last ballet shoot. My love affair has grown even stronger since shooting with Ana and Luca. *pirouettes off stage* XO

  3. I’m not a big fan of styled shoots normally, but the way you included ballet in yours is so creative! Even if everything didn’t go as planned, you managed to create a real piece of art 🙂

Lovely idea for a stylish shoot. Yes, Mother Nature doesn’t always cooperate, but glad that you were able to get a mix of moody and sun-kissed images out of the day.
